Supergirl has moved to the CW network to continue its season 2 journey! We have the same actors returning and following the show to the new network. We also have confirmed information that even though there will be a crossover event with the Arrow/Flash universe Supergirl will still be in her own universe. That doesn't mean shes going to be outside of the Multiverse, just not following the same time line as Flash and Arrow.
Anyways, the show starts out right where season one left off. The ship crashing and Kara ripping the door off of it. This time however it revealed who was in the rocket.
Martian Manhunter took the rocket and the man inside to the DEO so they could study him and figure out where he came from. Of course we already know he's kryptonian by the ship, also the fact that needles and other surgical supplies were breaking on his skin.
We also see Supergirl or well Kara trying to have a romantic relationship with James Olsen, as well as picking a new job. While on her date something goes wrong with a rocket launch and she has to go into action. She flies off to stop the rocket, which doesn't seem like her attempt is going to well. Seems like Kara might need some help and well she just might get it!
The scene before this one shows the Daily Planet logo and we can hear someone clearly talking to Perry White, that someone is Clark Kent! I know all the advertisements and trailers and everything said Superman would be here, but finally getting to the premiere with him on it is exciting. So Clark hears about the shuttle incident and takes off. Yeah you're reading it right we finally get to see Kara and her Cousin from season one save the day together.
Kara and Clark travel back to the DEO and they are met by Alex and Winn and Martian Manhunter, along with dozens of agents who are in awe of Superman. Which at this point I was too, I know we have him in movies and Cavill is the definitive version, but having Supes on tv with Supergirl and everyone already established like he is makes it great!
We get to hear a about Lois, and see the friendship between James and Clark. We also get to see Cat Grant get swept away by Clark.
We also get to meet a Luthor in this episode, no not Lex he's in jail according to everyone, we meet his adoptive sister Lena. Which everyone thinks she's behind the shuttle incident, but we find out the bomb
that causes it was under her seat. We all know Luthors are crazy and will do anything to stop Superman or cause chaos, but blowing themselves up I just don't see that. So we know someone else is behind it.
Clark and Kara investigate, but realize that Lena Luthor may be telling the truth and she may just want to do good. We also see Lena getting attacked by drones, Superman and Supergirl stop the drones and take them back to the DEO where Winn figures out that John Corbin is behind the attacks. Yeah that's right John Corbin, also known as Metallo.
Lena Luthor has decided to change Luthor Corp, to LCorp to drop the name away from her family and start something to save the world. This of course is stopped by John Corbin still trying to assassinate Lena Luthor. But he is stopped by Alex, while Superman and Supergirl save the city and stop a building from falling on everyone.
Clark and Kara has saved the day, John Corbin is shot and everyone is safe. We see Kara tell James it's not gonna work, and she also makes a decision which is driven by Lena Luthor to change her career to being a reporter. Following in her cousins foot steps in ever which way, well almost.
Clark lets Kara know he's going to stick around for a while because he likes to be with someone whose like him, which could be the arc for the second episode Superman will be in. I honestly hope it turns out to be more. Tyler Hoechilin was great as Clark Kent and Superman. This of course isn't the over powered version of Supes we see in the movies but a more down to earth Superman, relatable to The Lois and Clark show in the 90's. Hoechilin's Clark was on point as well, I have nothing against him being the TV Superman. At first I hated the idea, but seeing him in this first episode and how he relates to Melissa Benoist and her portrayal of Kara is spot on as well. I hope he can stick around.
Now at the end of the show we see John Corbin again and it looks like he is waiting on an operation to being or possibly recovering from one. He is given an option to choose whether he lives or dies, of course he chooses life! As the woman pushes the green button, you hear her say "Welcome To Cadmus Labs"! This season is going to be great, so much of the comic being introduced into the show!
Season 2 is well under way and I honestly can say this premiere feels like a much better episode than the pilot. We see Kara finally trying to be Kara Danvers, and Supergirl. Superman joins the team(Sort of). We're introduced to Metropolis, again sort of. We see history between Supes and Martian Manhunter, which is brought up and I feel could be a good flashback episode if possible. To me this show always had potential and I think it's found it.
I give it a 9/10! Just such an enjoying show to watch. Can't wait for episode 2 with Metallo! Can't wait to see how long Supes sticks around!!
