I have noticed recently that people are having an uproar about sensorship in entertainment. What I mean by sensorship is how things look, words that are spoken in a movie TV show, or even a comic book cover that people see in the wrong context. My example comes from another article which uses a variant cover for the Killing Joke that has Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) with the Joker in what's stated as sexual cover and possibly a victim of rape. Now the Killing Joke was released in the 1980s and is a favorite comic of mine. Variatn covers are just different covers used for a re-release of that comic book.
So why does this matter so much that I wanted to blog about it? Well first off the original article is on my page and I agree 100% with the author If you don't like it don't buy it. The next thing is why does it matter so much to someone that this cover is so wrong, or the fact that there is violence in video games? I mean movies have violence in them, they also have what is commonly called terrible language. Yet somewhere out there is a group of people who are afraid of a comic book cover.
As I stated above of you don't like something don't spend your money on it. If you don't but it for your kids or you don't allow them to do something, or you don't like movies with a rating past PG then don't complain about PG 13 movies.
The idea of sensorship is to keep violence, or sexual content out of most things which is okay by me I have nothing against that. But there are people out there who believe that art or entertainment should be clean and to everyone's preferences ... I'll be the first to say I'm really glad its not because life would be boring with restrictions on how art should be just because there are few people in the general public who can't accept things as they are.
So again if you don't like the way art looks, or the language in a movie or a TV show.If you don't like the violence in a movie or TV show. Don't buy the art, and don't watch the movies or shows use the rating system when it comes to that please. I for one am all for art or other forms of entertainment portraying things that actually happen in real life.
