Luke Cage Episode One "Moment of Truth"
Netflix has released a new Marvel Entertainment series named Luke Cage, which features Power Man or Luke Cage as we know him.
The first episode gives us quite a bit of information at the start. We first see what Luke does when he isn't taking a shotgun to the chin or helping Jessica Jones. That is his day job as we would call it, or jobs for that matter. He sweeps hair at the barber shop and washes dishes and bar tends at a night club.
During a night of work the owner of the club is setting up a way to make some money and that goes south real quick. Three guys break up the deal kill both parties and run off with the money. During the incident one of the group is turned on and killed. His name is Dante which is known at the barber shop and in the community Luke works and lives in.
While working Luke notices one of the guys from the barber shop being escorted through the club with some bad people or people that he recognizes from his past and that's when he gets involved. The guy from the barber shop however doesn't make it. He is beaten to death by the club owner known as Mr. Stokes.
Through this episode we can see Luke feeling like he doesn't belong in the current life he is living. We also see some flash backs of his past and what has driven him to always move forward. The police have two victims from the broken up deal on the junk yard, the third is missing and the only person they want to try to talk to is Luke.
Through the first episode we see Luke finally make a decision that he is going to step up and be the hero his city needs when he breaks up some of Stokes men trying to get money out of his landlord from their business. Luke reveals his abilities to them in the process and the show ends.
So far the action is limited but this is just the first episode so I expect the action to pick up as it goes along. Luke Cage is great, he's still going down this path to be a hero, he feels like he doesn't fit in anywhere else. I hope we see that progress as well.
I give this episode a 7/10. There wasn't much action until the end, it was more of an introduction into the life of Luke Cage and what goes on in Harlem. We also see some tie ins to the Avengers, such as the footage from the attack on New York. All in all this will be a good series to follow I believe and I'm looking forward to the 12 remaining episodes
