The Flash!
We are now back with two new episodes in the second half of season 4! This season we have no speedster villains and we are seeing some of the better stories of the Flash come to life on screen! With that being said, when the show left off at the mid season finale, Barry was found with DeVoe’s body and was taken into custody.
In our first episode back, Team Flash is trying to figure out how to get Barry out of Iron Heights, and also fight a meta that cannot control his nuclear abilities. The meta is about to have a nuclear fallout which would kill thousands of people in Central City. He was already cause radiation poisoning and getting people sick. Barry and the team had to figure out how to stop him, and they do. Barry runs around him to control the fallout while Cisco breaches the radiation to “Earth 15”. According to Harry Earth 15 is a dead planet.
The team works throughout Barry’s trial (The trial of the Flash) to get him out of trouble but he eventually accepts the fact that he has been set up and is guilty. So Barry goes to Iron Heights and is placed in the cell that his dad had occupied during his time in Iron Heights. Barry had accepted his fate, but also vowed to find a way out of prison and stop DeVoe.
This episode was a solid episode, but pushed the envelope on drama. We also had to accept that we may not be seeing The Flash for a few episodes while Barry spent his time in jail. I feel like it was a good mid season premiere for the second half of season 4. I will have to give this episode a 7/10.
The second episode of the second half of season 4 aired on 1/23. This episode was about Ralph Dibney and the rest of Team Flash stepping up to take Barry’s place. Barry who was still in Iron Heights was trying to get used to his new life, when he runs into the tricksters son.
The Trickster is what we will call him, because that’s what he roughly is was helped with an escape from prison by his mom. At the same time Barry was having some issues of his own with people in Iron Heights who were trying to attack him. Big Sir came to his rescue, along with his powers. Barry learned that Henry had helped him while he was in prison there so Big Sir owed Barry. However afterwards Barry and Big Sir are now friends.
Meanwhile Dibney had been saving Central City and had become a hero. When he ran into the Trickster, he was hurt with acid. Dibney decided that he did not want to be a hero after he was able to be hurt, until he spoke to Barry. Barry let him know that he wasn’t fearless, and that helping people and saving them was everything and having the ability to do so and not doing it means that you’re already dead.
Killer Frost and Cisco, went after the Trickster when Dibney quit, and was captured by him and his mother. Dibney went back to Star Labs got his new costume, and went after Cisco and Kaitlyn. Harry was there with Cisco and Kaitlyn trying to dilute the acid that Trickster and Prank where using. He did so just in time, because his intent was to melt Kaitlyn and Cisco. Dibney had saved the day and of course had to take credit for it.
At the end of the episode Dibney and Cisco were at the coffee shop, and didn’t have money for coffee. The mysterious girl from Barry’s wedding was there, she helped with their coffee. She babbled a bit, and sorta sounded like Barry when he came out of the speed force. Then as the two left it was revealed that she was writing in a notebook and what she was writing was the same symbols that Barry was putting on the walls when he came back out of the speed force. I honestly hope it is revealed that she is one of Barry’s kids or grandkids. That would make the most sense with her two appearances, so hopefully we get to see that soon.
Seems like to me while The Flash is away Team Flash is in good hands. They don’t have to worry about the city being in danger. I do feel like we are going to get a big bad that they won’t be able to fend off and Barry will have to make a decision. I still haven’t figured out why Barry hasn’t made a time remnant go sit in prison while he saves the world as The Flash. I mean I know the whole ordeal with Savitar really scares them from that but Central City will need The Flash eventually.
I feel like this season is better than season 3 so far, but not as good as the first two seasons. This episode was great to introduce Dibney as a new hero, not just a part time hero. I know the show is about the Flash, but I hope the goal is a Justice League or something like the League eventually.
I’ll give this episode a 8/10. While I don’t enjoy Barry being gone I do enjoy others getting a moment in the spot light!
