The Flash Season 3 Episode 3 "Magenta"
This episode starts out with Barry and Iris on a date! Yeah that's right a date. We see them start to get a bit romantic but yet things seem a bit boring. The both of them have agreed to try this dating thing but it seems to be failing. Of course things aren't going to work out 100% but for a first date it could have went better especially after two seasons.
The date is cut short by a call from Cisco. So Barry and Iris both race off to Star Labs. What they find when they get their is alarming. The breach in the basement has become active. Barry and company ready themselves for what might come through, when Earth 2 Harrison Wells emerges. He is asking for help and then we see why. Jessie who was hit with the Particle Accelerator to get Barry his powers back from season 2 zooms out of the portal to confirm that she is a speedster. The group can't believe that she's now a part of the speed force, but they are happy to seem them both and offer help. All but Wally, he was hit at the same time with Jessie and has yet to develop powers. He just cuts out with some excuse that he has something to do bad leaves.
Harrison Wells has come back to Earth 1 to seek help from Team Flash to convince Jessie that she doesn't have to be a hero like Barry. However they are all for helping her become the hero she can be. We even get to see a change to Star Labs. The Speed Room. A place where Barry can work out and his abilities are tested, something that he doesn't remember having from before. This was a change from the alternate time line, from the Flashpoint he created. Team Flash offers go help Jessie and test her with her new found abilities.
Meanwhile Barry Allen is still dealing with Julian Albert hating him at his day job. He seems to be furious that Barry is still even employed by the police. Julian isn't afraid to let him know that he suspects Barry is hiding something. The tension between these two it's just great, Grant Gustin and Tom Felton really pull it off. Tom may have the acting experience, I mean he was in 8 of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters in existence but to me they are great together on screen.
Whole Team Flash is dealing with Jessie Quick and Wells, a new meta human is coming to power. Magenta, or well as she is also known Frankie Kane. A teenager who has been from foster home to foster home, and most of them haven't been good places has developed a split personality. Her currently foster father was abusive to her and she was getting her revenge. Magenta a meta human who can move things with her mind uses a street light to attack and nearly kill her foster father.
She is taken to Central City police department where she is questioned by Joe and then by Julian. He of course has an argument with Barry about how it couldn't have possibly been done by a meta human with super strength because there was no finger prints and the lamp post was to damaged to have been thrown through a window. His argument is valid because she did use her mind which would have destroyed the pole.
Julian takes her water glass for DNA so he can prove that she is a meta human. Afterwards he confronts her about what she did to her foster father he brings out Magenta. She starts to destroy the police department and Barry has to spring into action. He saves Julian's life, and goes after Magenta. She is already outside by this point, by the time Barry gets to her. Barry mentions Dr. Alchemy to her and she knew who it was. Barry has figured out that Dr. Alchemy has given her back her power, so Magenta existed before the Flashpoint. She throws a police car distracting Barry as he makes the save and she escapes.
Through out the episode we can see clearly that Wally is down about something and I think it's because he didn't get speed like Jessie. If you remember in season 2 he was all about helping The Flash plus he's a smart guy he knows that the particle accelerator should have given him abilities. Joe talks to him and think he's going to be okay, but he isn't. He just wants to be hero like the Flash and is disappointed that he doesn't have his abilities.
We also see Wells confront Jessie about her speed and wanting her to not be like Barry, and she gets upset and storms away. Caitlin tries to talk to her, but doesn't see things the way Wells does so she pretty much tells Jessie to use her powers how she wants to or at least what feels right to her. Jessie confronts Wells again, this time she storms off and Wally goes after her. Wally and her seem to have some sort of connection, possibly a romantic one. Jessie did tell him that when she found out about her speed she wanted to call him first. Wally asked her about how she knew about her powers, and Jessie admitted to having dreams about them. Wally says the same thing, that he's having dreams that are feeling real to him about him having speedster abilities. Jessie then said she was nearly hit by a car and it was like time had frozen. So Wally thought he could jump start his powers the same way. So he stepped out into traffic. Nothing happened except for Jessie saving him.
Back at Star Labs Barry was giving Wally an ear full about how he was being stupid and wreck less. Barry knew that Wally was going
to be upset but it was no reason to get himself killed. It's very apparent at this point that Wally will eventually be a speedster, and Barry knowing that Wally from the alternate time line was killed by the Rival he is trying to stop that from happening. Barry is still devoting most of his time and energy to fixing the Flashpoint incident.
Iris decides that she is going to help by going to question Frankie's foster dad John, and figure out exactly what happened. John admits to abusing her and hurting her, and Iris figures out that she just wanted revenge. While she is talking to John, Magenta was visiting her friend Dr. Alchemy with the complaints that Frankie was still around. Alchemy told her the more time she was Magenta she would start to see Frankie disappear. After visiting with Alchemy, Magenta decides to attack the hospital using a tanker.
Barry races off to save the hospital. He isn't able to keep running to stop the tanker and also take down Magenta. Wells can see this back at Star Labs so he sends Jessie to help Barry. Jessie starts running the pattern on the hospital roof top to keep the tanker from falling on top of it. Barry tries to convince Magent/Frankie that it's not worth killing all of those people. He eventually makes the save and the crisis is averted. Jessie Quick is also a hero now!
Back at Star Labs Barry explains to Frankie that Dr. Alchemy and her foster dad John was at fault for this not hurt. Explained to her that they can help her fight Magenta and she can go live a good life on Keystone. While this is all going on Harrison Wells is in the basement letting Jessie know that he is okay with her being a hero and has her a gift. It's her very own costume. A suit for her just like the Flash! With her own black and white lightning bolt and everything. I thought this was a cool way of introducing another member of The Flash family having her dad being okay with her being a hero and saving people.
At the CCPD Joe is showing Barry and Julian a classified video from Iron Heights that has Edward Clariss being killed in his sale. Which I believe will start an investigation that good be a good arc for this season. Can't wait to watch it unfold.
The show ends with Iris and Barry finally on a date. Which he sat up by explaining to her that they can't ignore the people they are now if they want to be together they have go deal with him being the Flash.
I give this episode an 8/10. It was great! Some drama, and some heroics and Barry still trying to fix the timeline. What we didn't see was Caitlin and her Killer Frost abilities in this episode, which I get that it's not gonna be every episode but at least mention it. I know we got the whole conversation of this is what I would do if I had powers, but still no glimpses of her not being able to control her ability or anything. Just a lot of conversation and what seemed to me trying to avoid the issue. I think Jessie Quick will be a great edition to the Flash family, I still want Wally to become Kid Flash. I just don't want him to become Kid Flash because he's obsessed with it and jealous of all of the powered people around him. So far I'm enjoying the season and can't wait to see each episode week to week!
Next week we have "The New Rogues" Episode. Which will have the premieres of Mirror Master and The Top. Rumor has it this will be the first appearance for Leonard Smart as well. And if you remember Wentworth Miller was signed across all DC/CW universe shows, (Arrow, Flash, Legends) I hope it's a good return for him after what we saw in Legends of Tomorrow.
