We are finally going to Earth 2! We are going to see the world where Harry and Jay come from.
This episode started out with Barry and Team Flash in the basement of Star Labs at the speed cannon. Barry had been closing the other Earth 2 portals and this was the only left open because it could be controlled with the speed cannon that Jay Garrick designed. Barry, Cisco, and Harry are getting ready to go through to Earth 2 to make an attempt at saving Jesse Quick. Since this was the only portal or gateway left to Earth 2 they had a limited amount of time to find her and get back before Zoom would want his next dose of Barry’s speed. Jay told Barry that he would need to keep his speed up and if he seen anything to not pay attention to it or become emotionally connected to the people on Earth 2.
As Barry was running through the speed cannon we could see some pretty great images. One of which was Supergirl which we now know is foreshadowing the Flash/Supergirl cross over episode. We also seen the old 90’s version of the Flash as well as a quick shot of Gorilla Grodd. This was one of the greatest parts of the episode giving us a few spoilers as to how things are going to go from here, and who could potentially show back up in the later parts of the season.
Barry and company landed in the basement of Earth 2 Star Labs. Which was a little different than the Earth 1 Star Labs. They had Harry with them however and this Star Labs was still functional even after the particle accelerator exploded. Even after Harry was sort of responsible for Meta Humans and Zoom. Who seems to be causing a lot of trouble on this Earth. Guess since he is currently the fastest being a live on the show he can multi task well. Barry and Cisco seemed to be excited at the difference of Earth 2, but the tourist attraction wouldn’t last. Harry was ready to find his daughter and rescue her.
The group went to Harry’s lab/living area. From there they would make a plan to rescue Jesse. Which was cut short when Barry seen his double on TV who was still a forensic scientist for CCPD. He was however different from the Barry Allen we know. But the theme for Earth 2 has always been the Golden Age, more of a 50’s and 60’s retro feel. Which in my opinion was done perfectly with the cars that we see in the parking lot of Star Labs, and the way that there was a futuristic feel to Earth 2 with a classic look. Barry decides to go get his double, and than be him for the remainder of the time they are there.
Barry puts on his doubles clothes and takes off to CCPD to find who he thinks is Joe. He is surprised that when he gets to CCPD he can see Floyd Lawton who on his Earth is Deadshot and apparently dead. He is a detective with the police department who apparently has no aim. Kind of the reverse of his Earth 1 double. Lawton was being hounded by Iris for being such a bad shot, Iris West. She was the police officer on this Earth. And she is apparently married to Barry Allen. So again this worlds Barry Allen was a geek, but he had the life Barry wanted minus the speed force. The couple head home, Iris could tell that Barry wasn’t himself and was concerned, but didnt mention anything of it. Even when her Meta human detector kept going off she thought it was just malfunctioning. At their home Iris informed Barry that his mother had called, and he needed to call her back. Barry Allen had lost his mother over 15 years ago and now he had a chance to call her on the phone, a very emotional point for Barry which is something Jay warned of. On the speed dial list we see names such as Eddie’s not quite sure what it means now, but we do know on Earth 2 he is alive.
Iris and Barry head to the coffee shop, where we meet Joe. Who is a musician. Barry and Joe on this Earth can’t stand each other because of Iris, kind of a what if Barry Allen’s mother was never killed and he was never taken in by Joe. At first he didnt even call him Barry. This meeting would last until we see Caitlin and Ronnie come into the Coffee shop. We had seen them earlier in the episode Ronnie was called DeathStorm and Caitlin Snow was Killer Frost. On Earth 2 Barry’s friends were Meta Humans and worked for Zoom. They attacked the coffee shop causing Barry to reveal himself as the Flash so they knew at that point he was the breacher. Joe was hit during the fight by DeathStorm and Barry worked to save Iris and get everyone away from danger.
Meanwhile on Earth 1 Jay, Joe and Caitlin had a couple of road blocks. One was that the speed cannon was in pieces and the second was there was a Meta Human who was attacking Central City trying to challenge the Flash. Caitlin’s answer to one of the problems was Velocity 7, a different formula than Velocity 6. The reason because Jay Garrick revealed that when he became the Flash of his world his speed wasn’t just enough, he wanted more and more so he decided to start dosing himself. Now at the time this all sounded a bit odd to me, not enough speed, wanting more speed willing to do anything. Sounded a bit like Zoom. Which we know he’s not Zoom, because as far as we know Zoom was in Earth 2 while Jay was in Earth 1 with no way to Earth 2. Its all confusing but we can all hope that it plays out to not be so confusing. Jay would take Velocity 7 and assist in the stop of the Meta Human. I say assist because the Velocity 7 wore off and Jay Garrick stumbled about 3 feet from the bad guy but was a distraction enough for Joe to shoot him.
Barry of course is having a rough time on Earth 2 because he is getting emotionally attached to the people he is seeing. He is treating them like they are the same people from Earth 1. So this gets him into more trouble because he is going to protect them at all means. And since they have closed all of the Gateways to Earth 1 that means Zoom is stuck in Earth 2. Iris and Lawton track down Killer Frost and Death Storm so they can bring them in, but they are out matched. Cisco is with them but is having a crisis when he runs into his Earth 2 double. Only on Earth 2 Cisco is a bit of a bad ass, and works for Zoom. He is actually trying to double cross Zoom, and is trying to kill Barry. Unfortunately his plan fails and costs him his life and Death Storms. Not to mention that Zoom also takes Barry captive to where he is holding Jesse and the other speedsters. The episode ends with Barry locked up telling Jesse that he was there with her dad to help save her.
*Earth 2 was amazing!
*Zoom is a great super villain
*Cisco will shortly be in full on Vibe mode.
*Killer Frost was done great, Death Storm however needed work.
This is a continuation episode so I will be posting the second half of the review as soon as possible! The Earth 2 saga for the Flash hasn’t disappointed and the next episode Looks great!
