The Flash Season 2 Episode 2 "Paradox"
This episode picks up where episode 1 leaves off. Still showing Barry getting used to how things are different in this new time line he created. Everything is different, team Flash isn't the same even Barry's job and he wants to try and fix it.
Barry has a new partner at work known as Julian Albert played by Tom Felton. He is a CSI specializing in Meta Humans. He also hates Barry Allen. He also seems to think that Barry isn't the good guy everyone thinks he is. I guess we will find out who this guy really is. It's possible he could be a villain considering that in season 1 and 2 people close to Barry were also villains. One theory is that he could be Dr. Alchemy who we have seen working with the Rival. Another theory and this is mine alone is that his name could be sort of a throw back to Atom Smasher. Atom Smashers alter ego is Albert Julian Rothstein, so it is possible that he could be an alter ego of either villain.
We can also see the disconnect between Barry and the members of team Flash. Especially after Barry explains to them what exactly happened and why he's been acting so strange. Barry was showing them how he had wrecked the time line and Cisco reacted strangely, like he was mad at Barry. We find out afterwards that Dante, Cisco'a brother was killed by a drunk driver and Barry refused to go back and save him. Which is understandable because Barry wouldn't have any memory of any of that because he wasn't from this timeline, he could only remember the things that had occurred from his time line which makes sense.
Through out the show Barry and Julian are working on a case involving husks showing up at different locations. So far there was 4, and Julian wasn't willing to share his work to help out Barry or The Flash for that matter. so Barry had to improvise.. he stole a piece of the husk and took it to Star Labs. The husk piece ended up belonging to Edward Clariss, or in this case the Rival. Barry of course went to Julian asking for the info on the Edward Clariss samples. Which Julian caught on go and would mention at the end of the show which made him more suspicious of Barry.
Barry is also trying to fix what's going on with Joe and Iris. They aren't speaking when he gets back and that isn't right. Barry feels like it's his fault so he wants to correct it, he wants to correct all of it. After finding out about Cisco and Iris and Joe he decides that he's going to run back through time. Changing the time line yet again. This time however he is pulled out of the speed force by Jay Garrick. The two of them go and have a long talk about how going back and changing the time line doesn't fix anything that he needed to be the hero and take responsibility for what happened and live life the way it is now for him. So Barry goes back with a new perspective and decides to fix things himself instead of changing the time line. After he explains everything to team Flash they all seem to start coming around. Cisco is a bit distant at first, but we see near the end of the episode things are getting back to normal a bit.
Barry goes to face Edward Clariss, or the Rival. They're the only two who hold the memories of the other time line. Dr. Alchemy has somehow reconnected Clariss to the speed force through science, and given him his power back. This time the Rival has help. Dr. Alchemy joins the fight and blasts Barry with his crystal. Clariss chases Barry down and starts beating him to death, and it seems that Barry can't do anything about it. Up until Cisco shows up and blasts Clariss with a wave of energy. Apparently in this time line Cisco's powers have advanced quite a bit. He gives Barry an opening and Clariss ends up in Iron Heights. Where we see him getting contacted by Dr. Alchemy.
During this show we see one other thing that's different from the original time line. That thing is Kaitlin Snow. We see a clip after everyone leaves the room at Star Labs that she is starting to transition to Killer Frost. Which will be interesting because she is such a big part of team Flash, how will they control it. I hope we actually get an answer of what is going to happen to her in the next episode.
Barry was able to stop the bad guy, and pull team Flash back together. He is still on Julian's bad side, and I hope we get more on this story and the season continues. So far though season 3 has started out strong with two good episodes.
I give this episode an 8/10. Even though I love team Flash and am the characters I felt like there could have been more time given to Barry trying to correct things, have it more as a work on progress for an episode or two longer. I guess having his group by his side makes him feel less guilty for him changing their lives and being the only one who remembers doing so. Other than that this episode was great.
Next episode will be the return of Doctor Wells from Earth 2 and Jesse Quick! Yes she will be a speedster!
