Supernatural Season 12 Premiere
"Keep Calm and carry on"
The episode starts right where Season 11 ended. Dean has just discovered his mom is alive. We see him start to explain who he is, and how he knows Mary. We get to hear the history of Mary and John Winchester. We also get to see him explain exactly what has happened for the last 33 years. I am honestly glad that the boys mother is back. In episodes past they have seen their mother by time traveling, but now they were granted a gift by the Darkness to have their mother back. I can't wait to see how that plays out.
After catching up with Dean, we get to see what's happening with Sam and Castiel. First of all Sam and Cas were together at the end of season 11, Cas was blasted out of the bunker and the last thing we seen was a gun going off from the crazy British Men of letters member. We finally get to see that Sam is alright, he's beaten up and shot but alive. His captors bribe a veterinarian to pull the bullet from his leg and close up the wound, afterwards he is off to be tortured. Cas however is seen crashing back to Earth about 3 hours outside of where the bunker is located.
Dean, Mary and Cas seem to make it back to the bunker nearly at the same time, all searching for Sam and coming up empty. So they decide to go after him and try to find him. They track down the vehicle and the driver and start there. They travel on as we see the three of them at a pie shop. Dean and Cas both notice the veterinarian's vehicle and decide to follow him to get info. He explained that he helped Sam and his captors with his wound, because of the 100,000$ bribe and he had a phone number.
We cut back to Sam seeing him being tortured, first with ice cold water, and then a torch. He didn't cave or give up any info. I mean he did explain that Lucifer himself had tortured Sam so I'm pretty sure a couple of Men of letters won't have a chance to break him. The veterinarian gave the phone number to Dean and he called and made the normal threats. Which are usually both a threat and a promise of that is even possible.
As Dean and the group are driving they're blind sided by another driver, which ends up being the woman who was helping torture Sam. She had tracked them down and was trying to stop them. She must have been tough, she did have warded brass knuckles but she gave Dean and Cas all they wanted. She sadly met her end when Mary stabbed her with an angel knife.
Sam has been given medicine to start effecting his mind, he starts seeing things from his past. One thing that stood out is the season 5 ending when he was possessed by Lucifer and beaten Dean to death. The medicine is supposed to break his mind down and make him talk. Sam punches the mirror, and cuts his hand(which appears like he cut his throat on camera). This causes Lady Antonia to run down the stairs. Sam had lured her in and tried to escape, but wasn't able to due to the injuries. She locks him back in the basement and starts watching the video feed again.
The show closed watching both Sam and Dean react to the situation their in. Sam stuck in the room, and Dean on his way to save him. Going to pull his brother out of trouble again because it's what they do.
This episode was great! I can't say that it really set the tone for the rest of the season, but I think I am going to enjoy the Mary Winchester arc, along with the British men of letters. Which we did get to see their history, and they are efficient. I am also going to enjoy the arc with Crawly and Lucifer. I didn't mention Crawly, he is off trying to find Lucifer as he jumps from body to body, trying to find a vessel that can carry him. Crawly seems to be in charge currently but I think we will see Lucifer rise to power.
Twelve seasons in and so far the show is going strong. The premiere did not disappoint. I give it a 9/10. I really just don't like seeing Sam and Dean separated. Dean gets to the point that he isn't focusing on anything but getting Sam, which I understand why but he also has to save people and stop monsters while finding Sam.
Supernatural airs on CW on thursdays at 9 Eastern.
