Supergirl "Medusa"
This episode starts out with everyone at Kara's for thanksgiving dinner. While having dinner and going around telling each other what they are thankful for a breach opens. As soon as it opens it closes, and then next scene we are at the DEO headquarters. Winn is going to be looking for tachyons, while Kara goes undercover to L Corp to see what Lena Luthor might know about Cadmus.
Meanwhile Mon-El is at the alien night club trying to meet someone and spots who he thinks is J'onn J'onnz. He find out quickly that it's the real Hank Henshaw or Cyborg Superman as he claims. Which I think it's lame, but he is starting to be a decent villain for the show. While Mon-El is fighting with Cyborg Superman the club is being filled with a poisonous gas that seems to be only effecting aliens. After their fight Mon-El goes back into the club to find all the aliens dead. He goes back to the DEO where he is quarantined because of being so close to the virus. Kara's mom and sister decide to try and find an antidote or something to fight the virus with. Kara is off to the fortress to see what exactly happened. She finds that Cyborg Superman and Cadmus have released a virus that was used to protect Kryptonians from other aliens, and was now being used to attack the aliens of earth. Which is also strange considering that this episode is launching an invasion crossover with the rest of the CW DC universe also known as the Flarrowverse(Flash/Arrow/Legends) they now have a way to kill aliens.
While Mon-El is sick he kisses Kara, while she is visiting him. He would later shrug it off and pretend like it didn't happen, Kara wasn't brave enough to tell him what happened. Mon-El was cured, along with J'onn (His blood transfusion from Meghan was mutating his DNA to that of a white Martian).
J'onn explained that Kara needed to go as Supergirl to L Corp to confront Lena Luthor. Kara demanded to know exactly what was happening and why her mother was trying to kill all of the aliens, Lena acted like she had no idea, which she really didn't seem to. She did however call her mother to "help" her. She provided a machine that would allow her to disburse the virus over National City easier and to be able to attack a more centralized area.
During the episode Alex seems to be getting more and more comfortable with her coming out, so much that she gives this information to her mom. After giving this information other, her mother told her no matter what she would love her. I believe this part of the story helps define Kara and her role as Supergirl, Alex doesn't have powers she's a complete bad ass DEO agent and Kara gives her the confidence to be who she is. Alex gives Kara the confidence to do what she does daily to save National City. I have seen a lot of negativity about the sexual orientation of characters in the CW DC series, I for one am all for it.
Kara and J'onn with the help of Winn figure out where Cyborg Superman is going next and that's where the virus will be launched from. Earlier in the episode, Supergirl and Cyborg Superman fought and she stopped him from taking the tech needed from LCorp. However during the fight Maggie was hit by Cyborg Supermans laser eye or heat Vision. She's hurt but lives. The fight in the present however goes much differently, Supergirl is chasing a rocket and J'onn is left to fight Cyborg Superman. And it was a surprisingly good segment. J'onn held his own against a stronger opponent. Supergirl was able to catch the rocket right when it exploded, she wasn't able to stop it and save National City. She didn't have to. The virus wasn't harmful to anyone, the aliens were still standing J'onn and Kara included.
We find out that Lena had switched out the machine, and the virus wasn't harmful at all. She had double crossed her mother and also sent her to prison. Maybe Lena isn't like the rest of the Luthor's maybe she's good?
The day was saved, and when the group was back at the DEO Mon-El had lived and Eliza had cured J'onn as well. Kara wasn't able to tell Mon-El that he had kissed her. As the episode was winding down, Maggie confessed her feelings to Alex. Mon-El is apparently being hunted, and Flash and Cisco was the ones who were opening up the breaches. Barry needed Kara's help and was there to get her.
This was the start of the crossover week, the start of what I feel like will be an epic event. Even though Supergirl was the fall finale and, the tie in to the cross over came at the last minute, this episode brought the house down. I believe Supergirl will get another season as long as this season keeps getting better as it has. The characters are great and the actors fit, yes even the actor who appeared as Superman. I can't wait to see what the rest of the invasion brings, but if those episodes are as good as this one we have nothing to worry about.
I give this episode an 8/10. The only reason why it wasn't perfect was the whole J'onn J'onnz healed in a few minutes when this seemed like a big thing was just lame. I do understand though that the character isn't expendable and needs to remain through the series so the save is acceptable.
