DC CW "Invasion" crossover-The Flash
The crossover week started out with Supergirl, but while being part of the CW universe the episode was also the fall finale so we only got a few minutes of crossover action. This happens when Barry and Cisco show up to get Kara/Supergirl to help them with their fight against the Dominators.
The next episode of the cross over is the Flash episode, which would be Season 3 Episode 8. Barry gathers up Oliver and the Legends to help out. He introduces Supergirl to everyone and she shows them what she can do with her flying and heat vision, which is pretty cool. I mean this is the first time the "Arrowverse" has had any interaction with Aliens. Oliver does come up with the bright idea that they're gonna train against Supergirl.. not sure if he missed the fact that she's invulnerable and can't be hurt, but I guess he finds that out quick.
Meanwhile Dr. Stein and Jax want to speak to Oliver and Barry alone. They play the message from future Barry giving them the information of what Barry has done and not to trust him at all. It was more or less an informative apology to his friends, he just waited 40 years to tell them. After Barry and Oliver listen to the message, Barry tells them why that message was sent. Dr. Stein gets angry with Barry, more angry than he should. The next thing that of course happens is Cisco hears the message.
The whole thing with Cisco and pushing him to have all this drama with Barry has been dragging the show down. Cisco is blaming Barry for his brothers death and hates Barry for changing the time line, so now he has the rest of the team hating Barry especially the Legends. Dr. Stein gets so upset he has to go home. The only two standing with Barry is Oliver and Supergirl. I know the rest of the characters are the support cast to the heroes, but it's getting to the point that they need to be phased out a bit. Kind of like Winn and James in Supergirl they decided to start their own heroic team with the Guardian. Cisco needs to get over himself, yes Barry screwed up, he wanted go save his parents.. I mean he watched his mom die when he was a kid and was forced to watch his dad be killed nearly the same way. If memory serves Cisco hated his brother and his family when this show started, I know in season 2 they had sort of made up and was getting along. Barry corrected the time long as much as he could, there wasn't any thing else he could change.
After all the drama with Cisco pretty much telling Barry he wasn't going to be his friend no more, the heroes of the show decided it was time to figure out what to do about the Dominators. The team didn't want to work with Barry, so him and Oliver stayed behind. They sent Supergirl and the veterans of the Legends to face the Dominators, along with Thea and Diggle. This however did not clearly work for them, they were all placed under mind control and sent back to fight against Oliver and Barry.
Barry and Oliver were fighting all of them and losing because well Supergirl mostly. Once they were away from her they could handle the Legends and Diggle and Thea. Meanwhile Cisco and Felicity were helping out to get the rest of the team back to normal. Which the eventually did, but they would get help. Wally decided he wasn't going to sit around and wait. He wanted in on the action so he ran in to help everyone. Supergirl out a stop to it and hurt Wally pretty bad. After that Barry decided to take off with Supergirl in chase. He was leading her back to the building where they had all been put under mind control.
Barry ran around the building with Supergirl in chase until he was able to get her to destroy the machine. Afterwards the team met back at the "Hall of Justice"or Star Labs, Barry had saved the day and earned back some of their trust. While everyone was relieved the next big thing would happen. Oliver, Thea, and Diggle along with Sara and Ray Plamer would be abducted by the Dominators. Barry tried to save Oliver but wasn't fast enough. This was the tie in to Arrow and I think it was an amazing way to sent up a great show and keep the cross over going.
Now it would be left up to Barry and Supergirl to save the day.
The whole idea of crossovers is amazing and I'm so glad that every year they are able to do this with their shows. I hope as a fan we get more and more of this as these shows continue to grow.
My final though on this episode as an Episode of the Flash and dealing with elements from the show is that Cisco either needs to get over it or just go away. Barry made a mistake, and even though it was a large one, Barry holds this guilt in while holding the weight of the world on his shoulders. He sacrifices everything for all of his friends, but yet this one thing is going to cancel out all of the good he has done? I know it's almost ranting but I can't get over the fact that this is still a big deal after 5 episodes of the show have passed.
For that I give this episode a 5/10. Shows need drama, but the drama needs to be necessary. Don't get me wrong I love the Flash, and I want to watch a show about the hero, not about Cisco crying because Barry won't screw the time line up again.
