The sun had risen and was shinning down right on top of Valon and John. The boy had been awake putting out the camp fire and packing up what he could. Valon hadn’t slept in days, so John was letting him sleep. Valon opened his eyes and could see John moving about packing up the camp.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“You hadn’t slept in days, without rest how do you plan to protect anyone?” John answered.
Valon stood up and started to gather up his items from the campsite. His weapons and armor had been taken off and put aside, so he could rest. With his armor and weapons back on, he tied everything off to the horse and grabbed John and was off again.
The horse dashed off, running the dirt trails at full speed. Trees, and tall weeds zoomed by. John watched both sides as they rode, ensuring that there was no one attacking them. Valon just kept pushing the horse faster and faster, he was set on trying to find anyone with any information. They hadn’t see anyone in days and time was starting to be a factor. Valon has been riding for a little over a week now, he wasn’t sure he would find anyone who could answer his questions for him.
As night fell, Valon could hear voices coming from a small village near them. He could tell that they were off in the distance, but it could be the answers they were looking for. Valon covered John with a blanket, as they walked up. Darkness shrouded them, as they entered the small village. Their surroundings were the same as before, not really anyone out, just chatter going on. Valon took the horse and John to the nearest post, he tied the horse off.
“Stay with the horse, stay covered and keep quiet.” Valon commanded.
John nodded in approval and hunkered down beside the horse still covered with the blanket. The darkness would keep him hidden for a while, so Valon has some time to find out what was going on. Valon took off on into the village a little further, buildings with torch light stood all around. He turned in the direction that the voices were strongest and took off that way. He was sprinting trying to find anyone, or anything. As he was running he ran up on a barn, the barn had a strong smell coming from it. He could hear the rustling inside as though animals were moving in the hay. Valon grabbed the torch, pulled the doors open and went in sword first. He was prepared for what was ahead. Valon shines the torch in each direction and could see only the animals in their stables. He slowly moved to the other side of the barn, and found what appeared to be human remains.
