Alien Covenant
Alien Covenant is a sequel to the Prometheus movie that premiered in 2012. This film follows the journey of the crew of the Covenant as they are taking colonists to a new world. During this journey catastrophe hits and the crew is faced with some major decisions.
The movie opens with David from Prometheus apparently just after he was created taking commands from his creator mister Waylon. After the title we are introduced to the Covenant a space station housing colonists on a destination to terraform a new planet. Things go drastically wrong from the start. It doesn't get much better as the film goes along. More and more things happen to the crew.
Most of the action starts once they receive a distress beacon from a remote planet. Of course they are all willing to go to this planet instead of the seven year wait for their first destination. I can say I would do the same given the situation. However once the land on the planet the trouble begins. Two of the group become infected with the same mutagen we were introduced to in Prometheus, this of course causes chaos ending in the death of 5 members of the crew and damaging Walter(David's replacement). Speaking of David as everything is falling apart he makes the save of the group and leads them to where he is hiding out. At this point we know something is up, before the attacks the ship used at the end of Prometheus to escape the planet was found. So we at least know Elizabeth Shaw and David had landed here.
David who seems to be a survivor takes the group in and swears that the planet isn't dangerous. Of course he's going to do this, he's been alone for nearly 10 years. During his 10 years however he has done great things. Well he considers them great because he is hell bent on destroying the Human race. During his 10 years stay on this planet we figure out that he is the cause of the Xenomorphs. He created the Alien race that we all know and love. During all of this we get a glimpse of what happened after Prometheus. David used the mutagen found during Prometheus to execute the inhabitants of the planet the crew is currently on.
While the crew is regrouping after losing their members one of the Aliens finds it way into the area. Which as we had seen isn't good for the group, because the Aliens they have encountered are strong and fast and they haven't been able to kill them. During the skirmish the group loses one more to the Alien. During all of this David and his plan is revealed. David reveals what happened to Elizabeth from Prometheus, as well as what he had been doing for the last 10 years.
After two more significant deaths the group plans to evacuate. They escape not unharmed. Which is surprising because this group seems to be like The group of Prometheus more scientist then military trained. The group narrowly escapes the Alien that is after them, killing it in the process. They get back to the Covenant and start preparing to leave when another Alien attacks. A Xenomorph from one of the injured crew members is set loose on the ship. The remaining crew Tennessee, Walter, and Daniels are now the only ones remaining to take the Xenomorph out. This of course happens in true Alien fashion, Tennessee and Daniels with the assistance of Walter lure the Alien to the terraforming platform. The Xenomorph is trapped and pushed outside into space getting it off of the Covenant.
After the small victory Tennessee and Daniels prepare to go back into the sleeping pods to get to Oragae 6. As we come to a close Daniels realizes that Walter is really David and now has access to over 2,000 colonists to experiment on and a little over 7 years to do so.
Alien Covenant the sequel to Prometheus, provided a lot of insight and history into how the Xenomorphs were created. This movie also provided is with a closure to Prometheus and what happened after David and Shaw escaped the planet at the end of the film. This movie also provided a lot of action. The film has great pacing and felt like an Alien movie. There wasn't much I found wrong with the movie, well except for maybe James Franco not making it past the 15 minute mark.
Overall I give this movie a 7/10!
